What is Physiotherapy ?

Physiotherapy is the system of treatment of various diseases and disabilities using physical exercises, electrotherapeutic modalities, and manual therapy techniques. One of the fastest growing health care areas of medicine, it is provided as both a referral and first contact clinical practice. Physiotherapy is integral in rehabilitating any individual, whether hospital-based or in the community. Being in the healthcare sector, it is essential for a physiotherapist to have a thorough knowledge of the human anatomy, biomechanics, and pathological conditions with their medical and surgical managements to devise appropriate rehabilitation programmes.

Physiotherapists treat a wide range of ailments; hence specialization is available in areas such as Paediatrics, Geriatrics, Orthopaedics, Cardiopulmonary Therapy, Women’s Health, Sports Physical Therapy, Neurology, Clinical Electro Physiology, Hand Rehabilitation, Biomechanics, Manual Therapy and Ergonomics.
