Celebrating the Birth Anniversary of Dr. Anandibai Joshi

The birth anniversary of Dr. Anandibai Joshi, a stalwart of women’s empowerment and a beacon for women’s education, was celebrated in college by awarding deserving women in the fields of medicine and women’s empowerment and providing a moving glimpse of the life that Dr. Anandi led while pursuing her medical education in Philadelphia.

The orator, Mrs. Chitale, showed Dr. Anandi’s life in a series of incidents that molded it and became the cause for her decision to learn medicine in an era when women’s education was a reason for ostracism from society. Her struggle to learn and find people who could fund her studies was inspiring to hear.
